Live Your Best Life

It is time to embrace your best life

It is time to respond to the longing inside you for something more.
Life is often like an endless adventure; always calling you to the next thing. One moment you are living your “simple” life and the next, you are staring at your new job offer, caring for a baby or even planning to relocate thousands of miles away from your loved ones. Other times, it is simply a longing inside you for something more, perhaps to live your best life.
It is time to embrace your best life…
For many people, the concept of their best life is an exaggerated picture far from where they are right now and that is exactly why it seems so hard to connect. The truth is from wherever you are right now, you can begin to build your best life to be what you desire it to be. It is about having a realistic picture of what your next is, it could be a small part of the big picture you have in front of you.
Let’s make this practical, If your 23-year-old younger sister who has recently graduated from the University expresses her frustration at not being able to land the role of CEO for all the seven startups she had applied to, what would be your response?
If I were the big sis in this scenario, knowing my sister’s current limited career and experience level, I might indulge her and ask to see the CV she has been using to apply for the role of CEO. I will most likely advise her about the need to start from where she is. Identify the skillset of a CEO, recognise folks that she can learn from in the industry and look for roles that apply to her current skills and education level, to begin gaining the required experience.
It is not that her vision is not achievable, she just hasn’t put it into perspective in terms of how to achieve her vision.
The point about embracing your best life today is that you begin to recognise both the big and little things you can do and should be doing to make your life a masterpiece. Think of your life as a masterpiece, every stroke of paint contributes to the beauty that becomes of the canvas.
These five points can help you gain the right perspective you need to embrace your best life today:
    1. It is okay to start from ground zero
Everyone must start from somewhere. Think about the many folks who are successful today or making an impact one way or another. Several of them began to build their lives when the conditions didn’t seem to look like what they wanted.
    1. It is time to look inward
“You have to ask yourself, What am I living for? Who am I living for? What potential am I yet to unleash? What legacy do I want to live on earth?”
A couple of years ago, I wrote a novel, Omolabake and the funny thing is till today, a quote from the book still stands out for me. Brief story, there was this young guy, Gideon, who seemed to be stuck being a driver when the career he wanted was not coming forth. All the conditions around him being a driver were not palatable but one day, his superior at the office said to him “Where you are is a goldmine.” After some reflection, Gideon took the advice and used the seemingly insignificant role he was in to build a better life for himself. You can do the same today if only you realise that where you are is a Goldmine.
    1. Start with the end in mind
At 60 years old, it would truly give you satisfaction and delight when you look back. A life of regrets at the opportunities you chose not to explore or a life of opportunities explored. It is the latter for me, choose yours. With your choice in mind, ask yourself this question, “What must I begin to do today so I can have my desired tomorrow?”
    1. Find your tribe
These people act as catalysts to becoming your best version and living your best life. They are your teachers, friends, family and your village. Folks that push you and want you to be the best. These people see value in you and are willing to push you and support you to become the best version of yourself. They will not relent!

Embrace your growth, Embrace your process

    1. Embrace the growth, embrace the process
One time, I wanted to create visual content like videos. For the longest time, I’d think about how the apartment I was living in was not aesthetically pleasing enough. After a while, my family and I moved houses and you won’t believe that even though it was a nicer and more aesthetically pleasing house, I never began the visual content creation. While it is easy to say I will wait till the time is right, till I have the right equipment, till I have the right connections, sometimes these things become hindrances from truly experiencing growth. Do you need that thing you think you are waiting for?

In conclusion, it is not enough to grumble or be unsatisfied with your life, you have to do something about it. There are several aspects of our life other people can help us with but there are some key aspects that only you must handle. Failure to take charge will inevitably mean living life to chance. We do not want that!

Thank you for reading and I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments section.

      1. Thank you so much for this.
It is impossible to find growth in what I did not start. I need to start from ground zero and embrace the process. Not trying to start from what some people grew into.

God impressed it in the heart of my husband and I to start a health video content.
We didn’t start because we thought we needed some special skills and equipments for that. Then we started one day and we are getting better at it.
You cannot grow at what you did not start.
This is a nudge for me and and everyone to start somewhere and growth will happen on the way.

Thank you for this. Looking forward to the next one.
